R U O.K. Tips for Coaches supporting Judoka
Published Thu 20 Aug 2020
Being a positive role model and championing the importance of being there for one another is vital for coaches wanting to bring about an R U OK? culture in their sporting club. But there are other practical ways you can get involved with supporting and sharing the R U OK? message:
- The most important thing you can do is ask R U OK? when you notice the signs that someone is struggling with life. We all go through life’s ups and downs and having these conversations can make a huge difference when someone is going through a tough time. Find tips in our Conversation Guide for coaches.
- If you’ve got a story that highlights how an R U OK? conversation can change a life, share it with your sporting community. Your story could help show others that it’s OK to talk about life’s ups and downs, and it might inspire those on your team to look out for their mates and ask ‘Hey Sport, R U OK’
- Hosting an event is a great way to bring people together to see the power of conversation, learn R U OK?’s four conversation steps, connect and get to know one another a little better.
- Organising an R U OK? Round can help create a sense of camaraderie and rapport between the people involved. It’s a great way to get everyone in your sporting community ready to trust the signs, ask “Are you OK?” and start a conversation that could change, or even save, a life. - Share the R U OK? message on your social media channels. Feel free to re-share content we post and the social media tiles in the toolkit for coaches
