To our sport and recreation community,
Thank you to the many sport and recreation organisations across the state for responding quickly to the ongoing updates provided by the Premier and the Chief Health Officer in relation to current contact tracing alerts. As you all know, for sport and recreation to continue in our Queensland communities it’s so important we provide a safe space for our participants and spectators.
As mentioned in my previous communique, whilst there are a number of new restrictions on gatherings, the Chief Health Officer advises that at this stage, community sport can continue provided Industry COVID Safe Plans are adhered to.
In response to the current COVID situation in South East Queensland and in the lead up to this weekend’s round of community sport fixtures, we remind all organisations to please continue to adhere to the following:
- Ensure you are operating and adhering to a COVID Safe Plan and that hygiene and sanitisation practices are implemented.
- Continue promoting to members that if they are unwell they should not participate or attend their sport or recreation activity
- Ensure the collection of ALL attendees contact details is occurring and can be provided to a public health official within the required 60 minutes of the request. Public Health Units across the State as well as Queensland Police have the ability to check-in and request information surrounding your club or association compliance any time.
- Liaise with your relevant State Level Organisation regarding training and fixtures and keep up to date with their ongoing advice.
As you are aware, contact tracing is being undertaken and it is recommended that people who were present at identified public contact tracing locations at the relevant times monitor their health and, if they develop even the mildest of COVID-19 symptoms then they should get tested.
It is also recommended that any people in this situation please do not attend sport, recreation and/ or fitness activities where physical distancing is not able to be maintained until they complete the self-assessment quiz or gain advice from a public health official. The Contact tracing self-assessment quiz is available on the website and advises people to what to do next.
I take this opportunity to thank all volunteers across Queensland who have been ensuring members, participants and spectators are following the directive of your COVID Safe Plan. I understand the additional workload you have taken on this season to ensure the safety of those involved with your Club. It is because of your efforts that sport and recreation continues to operate in Queensland.
If you have any concerns surrounding the delivery of your activity against the relevant Industry COVID Safe Plan please don’t hesitate to contact the COVID Hotline on (07) 3330 6166 or COVID email SR_Covid19@npsr.qld.gov.au for additional information support.
